So, stick with me as I share my story and provide you with the knowledge and tools to pursue your own internship abroad.
Application and Acceptance
Before we dive in, let me give you some context on how I found myself applying for my first internship.
I was knee-deep in my film and media studies degree, feeling utterly uninspired by the conventional university experience.
Then, like a beacon of hope, I stumbled upon an opportunity to intern with Archipelagos while trying to find a work experience opportunity as part of one of my university modules.
The thought of working with marine biologists and jetting off to Greece filled me with excitement, so naturally, I jumped at the chance.
After a nerve-wracking Skype interview, I was accepted on the internship!
And, of course, Kyle wanted to come too, so he applied and got a place too. And so our adventure began!
The Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation
Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation is dedicated to researching and defending the biodiversity of the Greek seas and islands.
During our four-week stay, Kyle and I were part of the media team, contributing our skills to photography, social media, and graphic design projects.
We spent our days documenting marine life, assisting with research expeditions, and immersing ourselves in the world of marine conservation.
From participating in dolphin and porpoise photo identification to aiding in turtle rescue and rehabilitation, every moment was filled with purpose and passion.
The Cost of Conservation
Now, you might be wondering – did we have to pay for this experience?
The answer is yes, we did.
However, the investment was worth every penny, as it covered our accommodation, meals, and invaluable hands-on experience.
Plus, the friendships we formed and the adventures we embarked on were truly priceless.
Exploring Greece and Beyond
Now, let me tell you about the real fun part – the adventures!
When we weren't busy saving the planet, Kyle and I made the most of our time in Greece.
We embarked on excursions to picturesque waterfalls, ancient ruins, and charming towns, soaking up every ounce of culture and beauty.
But our adventure didn't end there. Oh no, we decided to extend our trip by road-tripping along the coast of Turkey, where we explored ancient sites, encountered friendly locals, and indulged in delicious cuisine.
From hiking through the Potami waterfalls to exploring the ruins of Ephesus, our post-internship travels were filled with unforgettable experiences and lifelong memories!
