Unwrapping the Print

This stunning piece of artwork, titled "Bycatch," is the creation of the incredibly talented Francesca Page.

If you haven't already, I highly recommend checking out her Instagram and website after reading!

Framing the Print

Now, let's talk about this masterpiece.

I've been following Francesca on Instagram for years now, and what drew me to her work is not just her incredible talent as a painter, but also her passion for marine life.

She's not just an artist; she's also a scuba diver and underwater photographer, living the dream job that I aspire to have one day.

Bycatch, as the name suggests, sheds light on the grave issues plaguing our oceans due to the fishing industry.

It's a term used to describe the unintentional capture of non-target species in fishing nets – a practice that wreaks havoc on marine life worldwide.

The detail in this piece is breathtaking, but it's also heart-wrenching to see the reality of what thousands of marine species endure every day.

Francesca created Bycatch in partnership with PangeaSeed to raise awareness about the devastating impact of commercial fishing on our oceans.

Now, you might be wondering, what can we, as ordinary individuals, do to help?

One simple yet effective step is to reconsider our seafood consumption.

While I won't delve into the vegetarian versus vegan debate here, reducing our seafood intake, or ensuring it comes from sustainable sources, can make a significant difference.

When buying seafood, look for labels indicating it's been line-caught or sourced locally from responsible fishermen.

Educating ourselves about overfishing and ocean pollution is crucial too, as it informs our choices and inspires us to take action.

Supporting charities and signing petitions to advocate for stronger environmental policies is another impactful way to combat overfishing.

Together, we can push for more marine reserves and no-take zones to help marine populations recover.

Go show Francesca some love!

I urge you to check out Francesca's incredible work over on her Instagram and her website.

She recently moved to Australia and set up a new studio in Sydney, and now she is in Indonesia pursuing her passion for underwater photography.

Show her some love and support – let's amplify her artivism across the globe!
